Childhood Trauma & Adult Health

Our formative years, including prenatal, play a vital role in the adult we become. Not just characteristically but physiologically. What happens to us as children stays in our energy & our cells.  An American study in the mid 90ties (The Adverse Child Experiences Study) surveyed 17,000 adults and found that a very high percentage of them had experienced adverse childhood events, which they called ACEs.  

Their particular study majored on extreme experience like abuse/neglect/substance abuse & divorce in the parents and found that the higher the level of childhood trauma, the higher the risk of disease later in life, especially chronic disorders and auto-immune diseases.  The conclusion was that our biography can very well become our biology sooner or later.  

Almost everyone has ACEs - sometimes their own, sometimes passed down through generations and sometimes silent.  The silent may be in precognitive years (ages 1-3) or even prenatal.  Silent ACEs often play out later in life as attachment issues, neediness & insecure relationships - an example of this may be where a premature baby has been separated from it's mother after birth.  

The study showed that childhood trauma changes our physiology.  Trauma is held in our cells & our energy bodies and emotions can change our vibration, affecting our health and often our gut microbiome.  For example, unhappiness and constant low vibration emotions may resonate & help an overabundance of unhealthy gut bacteria to thrive.  Whereas a happy vibration may help to foster a more balanced gut microbiome.     So it's not just what we eat, it's how we've learned, how we live, how we think and how we feel.  Feelings may be the invisible world we should listen more intently to and act more often on. 

The good news is that all this learned behaviour/altered physiology may be reversible providing we take responsibility for our own wellbeing.  Self exploration is essential, even if you choose to take more conventional routes for healing.  Working with a Practitioner who understands a more holistic approach can also help us to see a bigger picture - one where there are options and possibilities, even when others tell us that there are none.   

Emotional Freedom Technique 'Tapping' is a very good tool for tapping into and unlocking traumas and learned behaviours which are holding us back.  Health and happiness are our birthright.
