Turn off Fight/Flight with Biomagnetism

Are you stuck in fight/flight/freeze mode?  Do you even know what it means, physiologically, and how to turn it off?

The body is an amazing machine and in times of danger, this mode may help save our lives but how frequently do we need that?!  Keeping this switch on for long can cause a lot of harm and here's why.

When you are in real danger, the heart rate hikes, the muscles prime, the pupils dilate, the skin flushes and sends more blood to the arms and legs, the body floods with adrenaline, the main organs of the body take priority.  All good if your life is in danger and you need to run or freeze so as not to be heard or seen.  But that doesn't happen everyday, right?    Or does it?!

In our busy lives, more and more of us are getting stuck in fight/flight.  Worries, anxieties, deadlines, performance targets, finances, family, you name it.....  In fact, this could even be a 'normal' state for some without even realising it - if mum had a stressful, fearful pregnancy or we did not feel safe in childhood.

For the most part, we should be in relax/rest/digest mode - whether we are working, eating, playing or sleeping - this is our normal state of being where homeostasis (automatic bodily functions just tick along normally for the entire body, not just priority organs as in fight/flight).

For example, we should be able to breathe normally when writing an important email to the boss, heart rate does not require elevation!  Missing the early train is not life threatening.   Dinner with family or friends is an easy date, not a target you just can't meet.   We should be able to sleep well at night, every night!

So you begin to see the difference between fight/flight and rest/digest.    The former is for emergencies, the latter is for most of the time.  Stay in fight/flight for too long or too often and the adrenals begin to exhaust and normal bodily functions begin to suffer - noticeably in the gut to begin with.

Doctors will often tell their patients that stress is causing whatever ails them.  Could be true a lot of the time I believe, however it's simply not properly explained and it rarely comes with a plan for 'how to' change that.

In defence of conventional medicine,  patients often don't want to accept that their own lifestyle has anything to do with their condition.  They just can't relate to that and believe their stress is being caused by their illness, not the other way around.

A personal commitment to wellbeing is the first step on the road to recovery, in my view.  It takes a long time for a chronic illness to take hold and it takes a long time to heal it - a  lifetime commitment to looking after the self in new, holistic ways.

When new clients come to me stuck in fight/flight they do one of two things:-  they fall into the deepest sleep within minutes, or they refuse to relax and talk throughout the session so that there is no chance they will let their guard down and relax.  Fortunately, the former is the most common and we can make progress immediately.  The latter takes more time because we have to try to address why they are so afraid to relax.

Biomagnetism (therapy with pairs of magnets) works magically to rebalance the body and particularly the vagus nerve and adrenals.  Even one session is a  great first step to switching back into rest/digest.    I use a mix of Kinesiology, Magnets and Reiki healing in my deep relaxation sessions and, thereafter, I encourage clients to learn EFT Tapping with me and use my guided meditations to help them relax at home.  It's a question of practice until lifestyle changes become normal and health and wellbeing is restored.

With love and light,
